Ann Whitfield Powers

Ann Whitfield Powers, Executive Director holds an MA in English from Florida State University and an MFA in Creative Writing from Pacific Lutheran University. Before Fishtrap, she was Development Director for two of Portland’s Waldorf Schools, taught literature and creative writing at Linfield College, and served as Executive Director for the Florida Public Interest Research Group. She now lives in Joseph with her husband and two sons, age 9 and 15.

Mike Midlo, Program Manager was born in Minnesota but like generations of mid-Westerners, followed the Oregon Trail out West. Before joining Fishtrap, Mike worked as a television producer at Oregon Public Broadcasting where he earned two regional Emmy awards for his contribution to their flagship programs Oregon Experience and Oregon Art Beat. He’s made independent films, produced record albums and pounded a few nails along the way. When not at Fishtrap, you can find him out hiking with the dogs or strumming old Western tunes. He lives in Enterprise.

Heather Tyreman, Bookkeeper grew up in Anaheim, CA and graduated from Pomona College. After 20 years of army service and world travel, she and her husband settled in Joseph to open The Bronze Antler, their bed and breakfast.

Janis Carper, Media Coordinator was raised on a ranch in Eastern Washington. When she isn’t working as Fishtrap’s media coordinator and jill-of-all-trades, Janis can be found gathering morels, writing songs, and playing music. She also founded and directs the Wallowa Valley Music Alliance.

KristenBlanton, Office Manager / Administrative Assistant grew up in Tucson, Arizona, where she received her B.A. in Creative Writing and English from the University of Arizona in 2009. For the past three years, she taught English at the University of Idaho while completing her MFA in Creative Writing. She has worked as the Assistant Program Manager at Centrum’s Port Townsend Writers’ Conference. Kristen currently lives in Enterprise, with her boyfriend, Loren, and their asthmatic cat, Kitchen.

Jon Ross, Arts Administration Assistant joins Fishtrap as part of a new partnership with Oregon State University, where he is currently completing his third year of study in Creative Writing. When he’s not helping administer arts and coordinate events at Fishtrap, Jon plans to work hard on his fiction writing and hopes the character of the people and places of the Wallowa Valley will seep into work.

Sally Parrish, Writer-in-Residence and Fishtrap College instructor, hails from North Carolina, where she received her B.A. from the University of North Carolina Asheville. She is currently an MFA candidate in creative writing at Oregon State University. Piloting a new phase of Fishtrap College, she will teach a college level composition course and an introductory poetry writing course in the fall of 2013 and spring of 2014 (see our web page). Both courses are offered for college credit through Oregon State. When not teaching, Sally can be found working on her poetry or exploring the county with her dog, Ali.
