In 2002, Fishtrap started offering college level literature and composition classes to Wallowa County high school students and adults. Local public schools had recently changed to a four-day school week, dropping Fridays. So Fishtrap’s courses were offered on Friday mornings, and the program was dubbed “Friday College.” In later years, some classes were offered on other days, so the name became “Fishtrap College.”
In any case, the Introduction to Composition, Introduction to Literature, Creative Writing, Poetry, and other classes allow Wallowa County high school students to get college credit while also satisfying high school graduation requirements. Adults from the community are also welcome to register. All Fishtrap College classes are offered in conjunction with Blue Mountain Community College out of Pendleton. Credits may transfer to other institutions.
At this time, Fishtrap offers two composition courses: Writing 121 during fall term, and Writing 122 during winter term. If you are interested in registering for either class, please feel free to contact us.
