When is Summer Fishtrap this year?
Summer Fishtrap officially kicks off Monday, July 6, 2020. The week concludes at noon Sunday, July 12. Writing workshops run Tuesday through Saturday.
All participants are encouraged to attend the weekend gathering Friday, July 10 through Sunday, July 12th, featuring the keynote presentation by Craig Childs
Registration opens February 5, 2020.
Who can attend Summer Fishtrap?
Summer Fishtrap is open to writers of all experience levels–from published authors to new writers. Adult workshops are offered in many genres including poetry, non-fiction, and fiction. Youth workshops are also available for young writers from ages 10–18.
Who can attend Summer Fishtrap Youth workshops?
Young writers aged 10–18 are encouraged to attend Summer Fishtrap.

How much does Summer Fishtrap cost?
Registration for the 2020 weeklong writers gathering is $855. Youth workshops are $550. Registration does not include meals or lodging.

Which workshop is the best one for me?

You'll see a variety of workshops, including several cross genre topics, taught by award winning, highly qualified faculty. What types of lodging are available?
Wallowa Lake Lodge has rooms and cabins for rent, plus Wallowa Lake State Park is just down the road. Please visit our Summer Fishtrap Lodging page for options.
What if I get hungry at Summer Fishtrap?
Meals are available at Wallowa Lake Lodge. You can choose from several meal plans when your register for Summer Fishtrap. Registration opens February 5, 2020.
You are, of course, welcome to bring your own food. Please be aware that the lodge does not provide kitchen facilities for the public to use. There are also many restaurants and grocery options available in Joseph and near Wallowa Lake.
How do I get to Summer Fishtrap?
Summer Fishtrap is located at the south end of Wallowa Lake, approximately 330 miles from Portland, 375 miles from Seattle, 240 miles from Boise. The closest airports are located in Lewiston, ID, Pendleton, OR, and Walla Walla, WA.

What’s the weather like at Wallowa Lake?
Be prepared for everything! The weather will likely be warm, but it is a mountain setting with cool evening temperatures sometimes dropping into the 40's. Thunderstorms are not uncommon, and snow is not unheard of. Bring extra layers, sunscreen, rain gear, and a sense of humor.
Is Summer Fishtrap ADA accessible?
Yes, main floor of Wallowa Lake Lodge and many of the workshop sites are ADA compliant. However, our venue is in a very rural area with limited paved roads and sidewalks. Please let us know in advance if you have any special requirements. Fishtrap staff are happy to help in any way we can. Rooms at Wallowa Lake Lodge are only accessible via stairs, however, some cabins are ADA compliant.
Can I bring my manuscript for review?
Summer Fishtrap workshops are generative in nature. Our goal is to provide all writers the opportunity to create new work and build on projects already in process. You are, of course, welcome to bring your existing work. There will be lots of opportunities to share with other writers. However, our faculty and staff will not be reviewing manuscripts.
