Fishtrap follows CDC guidelines in developing our COVID policies. We are also in contact with our local hospital and are fully compliant with Oregon Health Authority guidelines for live events. Based on our best interpretation of their recommendations, we have made the decision to return to in-person events. We will have masks and COVID tests available onsite. Oregon does not currently have a mask mandate, so we are not currently requiring masks for our in-person events.

Summer Fishtrap, Outpost, and Yearlong Writers Workshops
To make sure our summer workshops are as safe as possible, we are requiring all in-person workshop registrants and faculty to present proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID when you check in. Acceptable proof of COVID vaccination includes a CDC vaccination card, a photocopy of the card, or a photo of the card on a mobile device. Cardholders must be at least two weeks past receiving their first dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine or the second dose in a two-dose series vaccine (e.g., Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna). We are not requiring attendees to be current with boosters at this time.
This is what you can expect at our summer writing workshops:

Summer Fishtrap, Outpost, and Yearlong Workshops:
All daily morning Summer Fishtrap and Yearlong workshops take place in faculty cabins and are only attended by the faculty member and registered students for each workshop. Outpost writing workshops take place outdoors. All writing workshops are limited to no more than 13 students. Each faculty member will work with their students to decide together on masking during their workshops.

Summer Fishtrap and Yearlong Meals:
If you choose to eat at Wallowa Lake Lodge, they have lots of outdoor seating available.

Summer Fishtrap and Yearlong Afternoon and Evening events:
All special presentations, craft talks, and evening readings take place outdoors under a large 40 x 60 foot event tent with open sides and lots of fresh air. Afternoon events are only open to registrants and attendance is generally less than 60 people. Evening events are open to the public. Your attendance at these events is completely optional.

While we recognize that we are not able to cover everyone’s expectations or address every possible contingency, we are confident that we are doing our best to create a safe environment for our attendees, staff, and volunteers. We also feel we have a responsibility to work together to help keep our Wallowa County community as safe as possible. Please follow this page for the latest updates to our health and safety protocols.

It is important to remember that handling the spread of a serious contagion like the coronavirus is primarily a task for public health agencies. Decisions about future Fishtrap events are based on recommendations from the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control, the Oregon Health Authority, and the Wallowa County Health Care District.
