Oregon Book Awards Author Tour

Literary Arts brings the Oregon Book Award Author Tour to Wallowa County! Featured readers are Becky Ellis, a finalist in creative nonfiction for Little Avalanches: A Memoir, tina ontiveros, finalist in Creative Nonfiction for Rough House, and Charlie J. Stephens was a finalist in fiction for A Wounded Deer Leaps Highest.

Meet these fine writers as they read selections from their books and learn more about the Oregon Book Awards. Conversation, refreshments, and a book signing will follow the reading. This free event is presented by Literary Arts. Local support for this event comes from Fishtrap and The Bookloft.

About the Authors

Daughter of a World War II combat sergeant and veteran of a war fought at home, Becky Ellis is the author of Little Avalanches. She believes in the transformational power of storytelling and facilitates writing workshops in underheard communities with Write Around Portland. 

tina ontiveros is a writer, teacher, and bookseller based in the Pacific Northwest. she was raised below the federal poverty line, living mostly with her single mother at the edge of the Oregon desert, but often with her constantly migrating dad in small timber towns around the Pacific Northwest. today, tina lives at the bottom of Mt. Hood and teaches writing and literature at Columbia Gorge Community College.

Born and raised in Salem, Oregon, and currently living in Port Orford on the southern Oregon coast, Charlie J. Stephens is the owner of Sea Wolf Books & Community Writing Center. Their fiction has appeared in Electric Literature, Best Small Fictions 2020, New World Writing, and Original Plumbing.

Literary Arts’ Oregon Book Awards program honors the state’s finest accomplishments by Oregon writers who work in genres of poetry, fiction, graphic literature, drama, literary nonfiction, and literature for young readers. The Oregon Book Awards Author Tour brings writers to towns across the state, for readings, school visits, and writing workshops. Every year Literary Arts invites Oregon Book Awards winners and finalists to participate in the Oregon Book Awards Author Tour, which offers free readings, school visits and writing workshops in public libraries and independent bookstores and other venues in towns across the state. The tour promotes Oregon Book Awards authors in towns they might not visit otherwise, and establishes connections between Literary Arts and literary organizations across Oregon.
