Fishtrap is a watering hole for creative writers, avid readers, and thoughtful people who are passionate about the West. Whether we live next door to the Fishtrap house or on the other side of the country, we are all in discovery mode, all dedicated to creating a supportive community. We share a belief in the power of words to inform, inspire and transform us. At Fishtrap we find provocative new ideas and expand our own capacity for creativity.
Find us in the breathtaking northeastern corner of Oregon where ranches meet rugged mountains. Our home base is in the town of Enterprise. Participants from throughout the west (and beyond) arrive for our summer conference at Wallowa Lake, at the foot of the Wallowa Mountains, near Joseph. Our writers’ retreat is in the remote Imnaha River Canyon. Our nature writing Outpost workshop is held on the Zumwalt Prairie. It takes time to get here, but what you find is well worth the journey.
We cultivate exceptional writing, thoughtful reading, and provocative discussion through an array of programs, including writing conferences, lectures, readings, discussions, and classes. Our flagship program is Summer Fishtrap: A Gathering of Writers. Held each July at Wallowa Lake in northeast Oregon, Summer Fishtrap gathers writers for a week of inspired writing workshops and culminates with a weekend of passionate discussion on a key issue facing the West.
