The Bowlby Building History
The structure, built in 1899 by Enoch R. Bowlby, was the first building in the county to be made from “Bowlby Stone” which was excavated from a quarry located on Bowlby’s land east of town. The eponymous stone would become an architectural mainstay of Wallowa County.
