Exploring Story Genre Through Writing – Youth Entering Grades 5-8
What is a genre? And what does it have to do with writing? Don’t have the answer to this quite yet? That’s okay! You will after this engaging workshop where we will explore and write a variety of stories that belong to different literary genres.
In this weeklong workshop, we will review elements of a story and use this information to help us delve into writing different types of stories and creative writing pieces. From fable to fairytale, fiction to nonfiction, poetry, mystery and everything in between (or at least as many as we can fit into a week of fun). We will engage our imaginations, creativity, ideas, and hearts as we step outside our comfort zones and try something new! Participants should be ready to use their bodies and minds to interact with self, others, and nature as we explore a variety of story types and genres together!
