The 2025 Summer Fishtrap Scholarship Application Period is November 18, 2024 through January 1, 2025.
Scholarship awards will be announced by February 25, 2025.
Fishtrap values the place writing can hold in a person’s life and recognizes that there may be obstacles that prevent a writer from being able to register for Summer Fishtrap. Thanks to the generous support from foundations, individuals, and local businesses, Fishtrap is able to offer a number of scholarship opportunities to help offset some of the costs in attending Summer Fishtrap .
The primary benefit of this award is an opportunity to attend the 38th Summer Fishtrap Gathering of Writers, July 7-13, 2025 at Wallowa Lake. A Fishtrap Scholarship covers the cost of the seven-day conference including a five-day creative writing workshop, readings, activities, panel discussions, and special events. A Fishtrap Scholarship is valued at more than $1000, but more than that, scholarships are an opportunity for writers to build, connect with, and be inspired by a community of writers and teachers in the beautiful setting of Wallowa Lake. Scholarships do not include travel, food, or lodging however Fishtrap can assist you to find options to meet most any budget.
To apply, fill out the application form and include a one page letter explaining HOW a Summer Fishtrap Scholarship can enrich your life as a writer. Please demonstrate WHY a Summer Fishtrap Scholarship will help you attend Summer Fishtrap and why NOT receiving one might make it more difficult or out of reach. The information you provide in this application letter is our primary source in the final selection for these need-based awards.
